Scholarships listed in this section are given through the University of La Verne.  For non-university scholarships, go to the “External Scholarships” section of this page.

La Verne Law has many scholarships—made possible by our generous alumni and friends that are available to 2L, 3L, and 4L students. Some require an application, which can be accessed here. The deadline to submit an application for the 2018-19 academic year is Friday, January 11, 2019. If you have any questions, please direct them to lawscholarships@laverne.edu.

If you are interested in being considered for one or more scholarships, we encourage you to apply. Only one application form is necessary; to the extent, you wish to be considered for multiple scholarships, be sure to include information that addresses specific requirements of individual scholarships.

Michael and Jeanette Bidart Endowed Scholarship Student must have an interest in insurance law.
Joseph and Doleen Borba Endowed Scholarship Student must be a female in good academic standing with financial need.
The Dean’s Award of Excellence A rising 3L student who is in the top 15% of his or her class whose academic performance, leadership and service demonstrate professional promise.
Sean McDonald Endowed Scholarship Student must be in good academic standing with an interest in tort plaintiff representation, and must show financial need.
Paul T. O’Brien Endowed Scholarship Student who has demonstrated outstanding potential as a litigator.
Ann Rahm Endowed Scholarship Student who has demonstrated outstanding potential as a litigator.
Society for Justice Scholarship Student(s) must be in good academic standing with an interest in tort plaintiff representation, and must show financial need.
Taylor Warner and Crista Haynes Leadership Scholarship Student must be in the top 25% of the class, hold a leadership position in a student organization or clinic, and show financial need.
The Paul Egly Scholarship Fund The Paul Egly Scholarship Fund is an endowed fund honoring the founding dean of the College of Law, Judge Paul Egly. The Fund originally awarded scholarships based on financial need to law students in good standing who were single parents with minor children. The Fund is now available to all law students in good standing who are demonstrably engaged in their legal studies and passionate about serving their communities and promoting access and justice.

2019 Nadrich & Cohen, LLP Scholarship

As part of its goal to make education accessible to everyone, the Normandie Law Firm has established the Normandie Law Firm Diversity Scholarship. Each year, the firm will award two scholarships, each in the amount of $1000. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and assist a needy student, who has demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to the promotion of diversity, to pursue an education in their field of choosing.

The Warren E. Burger Prize

The American Inns of Court Warren E. Burger Prize is a writing competition designed to promote scholarship in the areas of professionalism, ethics, civility, and excellence.
The American Inns of Court invites judges, lawyers, professors, students, scholars, and other authors to participate in the competition. Please submit an original, unpublished, essay of 10,000 to 20,000 words on a topic of your choice addressing issues of legal excellence, civility, ethics, and professionalism.

Bey & Associates

Bey & Associates, LLC, a personal injury law firm based in Atlanta, Georgia, is offering a once-yearly $1,000 scholarship to students who are currently attending or plan to attend their first year of college or graduate school in the upcoming semester. The rising costs of education are continuing to be a struggle for many students who aim to obtain a higher education. Mark T. Banner Scholarship

The Richard Linn American Inn of Court is proud to offer the Mark T. Banner Scholarship. This scholarship is part of The Richard Linn American Inn of Court’s commitment to fostering the development of intellectual property lawyers of high ethics, civility and professionalism, and especially those from diverse backgrounds.

Eligibility:

Law students who have entered into a JD program at an ABA-accredited law school in the United States and who will continue in that program through at least the Fall semester 2019 are eligible to apply for the Mark T. Banner Scholarship.

Applications will be accepted from now through December 7, 2018. The winner will be notified by April 2019 and the award will be announced at the Linn Inn of Court’s annual dinner in Summer of 2019. Applicants should submit the following documents as a single PDF format file for consideration:

The Law Office of David E. Gordon Scholarship Essay & Video Contest

GJEL Accident Attorneys Scholarship

GJEL Accident Attorneys is proud to announce the first semi-annual GJEL Law Student Scholarship. This scholarship is graciously being provided by the staff at GJEL Accident Attorneys for the 2018 school year. The Reeves Law Group Scholarship

For 2018 The Reeves Law Group is awarding a $3,000 scholarship to a deserving law student who authors a winning essay in our Sixth Annual Scholarship Essay Contest.

Requirements:

We would like you to tell your story in a brief narrative, starting with an introduction about who you are, your interests, and anything else you feel we should know about you. Then, please provide your entry in 750-1000 words in the form of an essay, or Prezi/Powerpoint presentation. Graphic and creative presentations are welcome.

Eligibility:

To be eligible for our scholarship contest you must be: a legal US resident, and either a current (1) law student at an accredited U.S. law school, or (2) undergraduate student who has applied or will apply to law school. Students with full academic scholarships are not eligible to enter this contest.

Proof of enrollment must be provided. We will accept digital scans of any of the following as valid proof of enrollment (which you will need to attach to your email application):

  • Unofficial transcript (Applicant must submit by mail an un-opened copy of official transcripts if selected as a finalist)
  • Letter from Admissions confirming deposit on school letterhead

Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick Law School Scholarship For Veterans

Chisholm Chisholm & Kilpatrick Ltd. awards an annual $1,500 scholarship to a deserving veteran enrolled in or accepted to a U.S. law school. veterans of all branches of the u.s. military are eligible to apply (army, navy, air force, marine corps, and coast guard).

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Completed application. Complete the form on this page.
  • Proof of veteran status. If submitting a document that contains sensitive information like a Social Security number, please submit a redacted version. The following serve as proof of veteran status:
    • VA disability benefits summary letter
    • DD214
    • Military discharge certificate
  • Current transcript
    • If currently enrolled in law school, submit law school transcript demonstrating a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The Brager Tax Law Group Legal Scholarship

Brager Tax Law Group, a P.C. is happy to support student education with our annual Brager Tax Law Group Legal Scholarship. Students who are enrolled in an undergraduate tax or accounting program, or a JD, LLB, or LLM program at a college, university, or law school in the United States are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Award:

One (1) scholarship of $1,000 will be awarded annually.

Who:

Any student who is currently enrolled in an undergraduate tax or accounting program, JD, LLB, or LLM program is eligible for the Brager Tax Law Group Legal Scholarship with a preference to individuals that are (a) from California, or (b) received an undergraduate or graduate degree from a college or university in California, or (c) are attending a law school in California. Employees of the Brager Tax Law Group, A P.C. are not eligible.

How:

Scholarship applicants are required to do the following:

  1. Fill out a biographical information form.
  2. Write an essay on a topic related to tax litigation, or tax controversy. The Criminal Defense Student Law School Scholarship

The Law Offices of Stephen Neyman, P.C. are happy to support student education with our annual Criminal Defense Student Law School Scholarship. Students who are attending an undergraduate, JD, LLB, or LLM program at a college, university, or law school in the United States are encouraged to apply.

Scholarship Award:

One (1) scholarship of $ 2,500 will be awarded annually.

Who:

Any current student in an undergraduate, JD, LLB, or LLM program is eligible for the Criminal Defense Student Law School Scholarship with a preference to individuals that are (a) from the Boston metropolitan area, or (b) received an undergraduate or graduate degree from a college or university in the Boston metropolitan area, or (c) are attending a law school in the Boston metropolitan area.

Bankruptcy Law Center Scholarship Contest

Spring Deadline: December 20, 2018

Winner will be announced January 5, 2019, for Spring deadline

The Topic:

Discuss solutions to the student loan crisis. Specifically, do you believe amending the bankruptcy code to allow for discharge of student loans would alleviate the problem? If not, what alternative solutions do you recommend?

The Bankruptcy Law Center will award $500.00 to the winning essay twice a year.

Eligibility:

The scholarship is open to any current 2 year or 4 year college student or law student.

The Essay:

The essay must discuss the student loan topic described above. The essay should be at least 750 words. Longer submissions are welcome.

A $500 scholarship (twice a year, total of $1,000.00) will be awarded to one college/university student in the United States. The winner will be selected based on overall writing ability, argument presentation and persuasion.

The Expert Institute’s 2018 Annual Legal Writing Scholarship

Clear, effective writing is the cornerstone of an exceptional lawyer, and a vital area of education for aspiring attorneys. While traditional forms of legal writing like case briefs and contracts endure, the internet has given legal professionals a new medium of communication that demands mastery as well. Blog posts are a new way for attorneys to educate and persuade, and to participate in a broader legal discourse with their peers. In recognition of the importance of online legal writing, The Expert Institute is offering a $2,000 scholarship for the best legal blog post written by a law student on the topic of expert witnesses. To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit a 1,500 to 2,500 word blog-style article on the use of expert witnesses in litigation through the online submission portal at the bottom of this page by December 31, 2018. If your article wins, you will receive a $2,000 scholarship. In addition, your article will be published on The Expert Institute’s blog and distributed in our weekly newsletter, where it will be read by thousands of practicing attorneys. The Mesriani Law Group Scholarship Grant

Mesriani Law Group understands the rigorous process that young law students go through to achieve their dreams of becoming practicing attorneys, along with the financial burdens that come with it. Many students often have to apply for financial aid and take out astronomical student loans, which is why grant programs are a great way to ease some of the difficulties associated with pursuing higher education.

In an effort to help bring forth excellent young lawyers to the forefront, MLG is offering a scholarship grant to determined and passionate future litigation lawyers.

A scholarship grant amounting to $500 shall be awarded to students who demonstrate the qualities and unimpeachable character embodied by every MLG lawyer:

  • Exceptional leadership skills
  • Outstanding work ethic
  • Commitment to serve less fortunate litigants

The Phoenix Injury Lawyers at Abels & Annes, P.C. Video Scholarship Contest

The Phoenix injury attorneys and car accident lawyers at Abels & Annes, P.C. are well aware of how expensive higher education can be for students and their families. To help with this matter, Abels & Annes, P.C. is proud to announce an annual $1,500 college scholarship video contest. Details about the contest and how to apply follow in the information below.

To participate in the contest, applicants must present a 2-3 minute video essay discussing the following question:

Motorcycles can be amazing vehicles to ride. However, they also can be very dangerous when other motorists are inattentive while driving. Research the laws in your area and discuss whether the laws are satisfactory or whether they should be updated and/or changed to improve biker safety. If you feel the laws should be updated and/or changed, please discuss your specific suggestions for alterations to the existing law(s) in your area. Additionally, discuss technologies or devices that exist but are not widely in use among motorcyclists that could improve the safety of bikers.

To participate, applicants must be currently enrolled in or planning to attend an accredited United States college, university or law school during the 2017-2018 academic year. People who wish to participate should send their video essay (YouTube format) in an email to scholarship.abelsannesphoenix@gmail.com by 2/20/19. In the body of the email, applicants should include the following information:

  • Your name, address, and phone number
  • If you are under 18, contact information for your parents
  • The name of the school you are planning on attending and your course of study

The Annual Stewart J. Guss College Student Scholarship

Attorney Stewart J. Guss appreciates the value of education as well and the ever increasing costs of obtaining one. This yearly scholarship of $1,000 is designed to alleviate some of the financial pressure on promising students wishing to further their education at the college and university level. Eligibility

  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident.
  • Be accepted to or currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or graduate program within the United States.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Demonstrate good character and high initiative.

Requirements

Applicants must submit the following documents to be considered:

  • A completed application form.
  • A current high school, college, or graduate school transcript. (Unofficial copies are acceptable)
  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher/faculty member.
  • A typed essay of 300-500 words about a time when you faced a significant ethical dilemma. What was the situation and what did you do?
  • Additionally, include a brief personal statement as to why you deserve to receive this scholarship and in what way it will further impact your education. Applicants are highly encouraged to speak from the heart.

Taylor & Ring’s Annual Victim Advocate Scholarship

At the Taylor & Ring law firm, we are committed representing victims of sexual assault, harassment and sexual abuse. We represent children, women, and men who have been victimized by these horrible crimes. We are committed to holding institutions responsible for their negligence in connection with these types of assaults. We also know that the best chance our clients have for a successful outcome lies in a strong civil justice system that vindicates their rights. Those individuals who are skilled advocates and who fight for their clients’ rights are the ones who ultimately make a big difference in victims’ lives.

That is why we are proud to announce the Taylor & Ring Victim Advocate Scholarship. This annual award will be given to a student interested in pursuing the study of law with a specific goal of helping survivors of sexual assault, rape, child abuse, or sexual harassment in the workplace. The successful candidate needs to be currently enrolled in, or will be enrolled in, an accredited college or university or law school for the upcoming academic year. The scholarship can be paid directly to the student’s college or law school at his or her request, if necessary.

Scholarship amount: $5000

For 2019 we’re asking for Infographic submissions as the basis for the scholarship. In today’s world of Twitter, Facebook and Instagram, social media has become a prominent destination for people to acquire new information.

According to www.journalism.org, 38% of adults obtain their news online, while 28% rely on social media or online applications. It’s not a secret that the modern news reader prefers easy and readily available information, such as infographics.

For this reason, we are encouraging students to develop a new skill that can be applied during college or future career.

In order to participate, applicants must submit their infographic as an attachment to ricelawmdscholarship@gmail.com by May 1, 2019, 9 AM EST.

In order to be eligible to participate in the contest, applicants must be a current or prospective college student for Fall of 2019. This includes rising sophomores, juniors or seniors who are enrolled at a four-year institution of higher learning, or a high school senior who has committed to attend an accredited U.S. college or university in the fall. Applicants must also comply with all requirements set forth above. Once the application period has ended, our scholarship committee will review the infographics and choose a winner by May 15, 2019.

2019 Legal Scholar Award

Wilshire Law Firm is committed to helping the next generation of attorneys succeed. To that end, Wilshire Law Firm is pleased to offer the Legal Scholar Award for currently enrolled law school students.

The Legal Scholar Award will be presented to a worthy student currently in law school. This $1,000 scholarship recognizes that individual’s academic achievement and spirit of giving back in spite of a heavy workload.

Eligibility and Selection Criteria

  • Students must be a US citizen or a permanent resident.
  • Student must have at least two semesters of law school left to complete.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Must demonstrate involvement in community activities.

  • Students must submit a 600-word essay explaining which field of law they’re interested in pursuing and why. Also, how they plan to use their law degree in that field upon graduation.
  • Students are required to submit an unofficial copy of their law school transcripts.

Environmental Law Institute Research Internship

The Environmental Law Institute (ELI), a non-profit research and education center in Washington, DC, seeks individuals to conduct research on natural resource protection and pollution prevention. Interns work directly with staff attorneys, scientists and economists on a variety of projects. Substantive areas of focus include: land use policy, public participation in environmental regulation, biodiversity, air quality, public health, hazardous waste and brownfields, wetlands and watershed policy, international environmental policy, environmental management systems, and environmental enforcement. Interns conduct library and internet research, attend and report on outside events, review and summarize scholarly material, assist with preparation for environmental training courses, conduct telephone interviews, and perform various administrative tasks. Banafshe Scholarship 2019

Banafshe Law Firm, PLC, a California Personal Injury Law Firm, is pleased to offer an annual $1,000 scholarship to a student who is currently attending or planning on attending their first year of college or graduate school.  The annual scholarship program is aimed at students who have overcome a challenge in life, performed community service, and demonstrates financial need. Application and supporting material must be submitted by July 31, 2019. Scholarship winner will be notified prior to August 31st annually. Students must submit a brief essay between 350 to 700 words detailing a single challenge in life they have had to overcome, community services they have been involved in and how they intend to finance your education.

The Blanch Law Firm Scholarship Award

We are looking for an excellent writer to contribute an outstanding article to our online publication. Essays should have a minimum of 2,500 words. Links to all sources must be included in a footnote. Entrants may seek general feedback on their draft essays from professors, or colleagues. An essay submitted to the competition, however, must be entirely the entrant’s own work product and may not be written or edited by any other person. The essay should be typewritten, double-spaced on 8 1/2″ x 11″ pages. The number of words on each page should be entered on the bottom right hand corner of each copy. The total number of words should be entered on the last page. In computing the number of words, all articles and prepositions should be counted. Count numbers and abbreviations as words. The faces of elementary school children Heshmat Mirsepassi taught in her native Iran lingered in her mind for decades. Many of those children came to school with just a crust of bread to eat for an entire day. One day, she vowed, she would have enough money to help them.
