Scholarships listed in this section are given through the University of La Verne.  For non-university scholarships, go to the “External Scholarships” section of this page.

La Verne Law has many scholarships—made possible by our generous alumni and friends that are available to 2L, 3L, and 4L students. Some require an application, which can be accessed Here; ;  preference will be given to students who submit an application. The deadline to submit an application for the 2019-20 academic year is Friday, January 31, 2020.  If you have any questions, please direct them to lawscholarships@laverne.edu.

If you are interested in being considered for one or more scholarships, we encourage you to apply. Only one application form is necessary; to the extent, you wish to be considered for multiple scholarships, be sure to include information that addresses specific requirements of individual scholarships.

Michael and Jeanette Bidart Endowed Scholarship Student must have an interest in insurance law.
Joseph and Doleen Borba Endowed Scholarship Student must be a female in good academic standing with financial need.
The Dean’s Award of Excellence A rising 3L student who is in the top 15% of his or her class whose academic performance, leadership and service demonstrate professional promise.
Sean McDonald Endowed Scholarship Student must be in good academic standing with an interest in tort plaintiff representation, and must show financial need.
Paul T. O’Brien Endowed Scholarship Student who has demonstrated outstanding potential as a litigator.
Ann Rahm Endowed Scholarship Student who has demonstrated outstanding potential as a litigator.
Society for Justice Scholarship Student(s) must be in good academic standing with an interest in tort plaintiff representation, and must show financial need.
Taylor Warner and Crista Haynes Leadership Scholarship Student must be in the top 25% of the class, hold a leadership position in a student organization or clinic, and show financial need.
The Paul Egly Scholarship Fund The Paul Egly Scholarship Fund is an endowed fund honoring the founding dean of the College of Law, Judge Paul Egly. The Fund originally awarded scholarships based on financial need to law students in good standing who were single parents with minor children. The Fund is now available to all law students in good standing who are demonstrably engaged in their legal studies and passionate about serving their communities and promoting access and justice.

Heshmat Mirsepassi Endowed Scholarship for Muslim Students The faces of elementary school children Heshmat Mirsepassi taught in her native Iran lingered in her mind for decades. Many of those children came to school with just a crust of bread to eat for an entire day. One day, she vowed, she would have enough money to help them.

Requirements

  • Be a current or incoming student at the University of La Verne
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from your Imam or local Muslim leader
  • Participate in the Muslim Student Association while at the University of La Verne

Silberstein, Awad & Miklos Impact to the Community Scholarship 

New York attorneys at Silberstein, Awad & Miklos, P.C. strive to bring the highest quality of service and ethics to every case. Taylor & Ring’s Annual Victim Advocate Scholarship We are proud to announce the Taylor & Ring Victim Advocate Scholarship. This annual award will be given to a student interested in pursuing the study of law with a specific goal of helping survivors of sexual assaultrapechild abuse, or sexual harassment in the workplace. The successful candidate needs to be currently enrolled in, or will be enrolled in, an accredited college or university or law school for the upcoming academic year. The scholarship can be paid directly to the student’s college or law school at his or her request, if necessary. Scholarship amount is $5,000.

Requirements:

  • An essay of no more than 1000 words about what the civil justice systems means to you;
  • Proof of enrollment in an accredited college or university or law school;
  • A brief statement about your financial needs.

Annual Reiff Law Firm Legal Scholarship The Philadelphia law firm of The Reiff Law Firm, personal injury and car accident lawyers since 1979, is pleased to announce that we are currently offering young law students the 2020 The Reiff Law Firm Legal Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is open to any student studying for a career in the legal field.

Requirements:

  1. You must be a citizen of the United States.
  2. You must demonstrate plans to enroll for admission‚ or have proof of current full-time enrollment at an accredited institution in pursuit of a J.D. If you have not yet received your acceptance into law school‚ you may still apply‚ but the scholarship will not be released without proof of acceptance and enrollment.
  3. Undergraduate students may apply; however, they should be able to meet the scholarship eligibility criteria outlined in bullet item two.
  4. Your GPA must meet a minimum score of 3.0.

THE CUNNINGHAM & MEARS ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP The Cunningham & Mears Academic Scholarship is an annual award of $2500, presented by the firm, to a student who wishes to pursue the study of History or Law. The successful candidate must be enrolled in, or have proof of upcoming enrollment in, an accredited college, university, or law school for the upcoming academic school year. The scholarship can be paid directly to the institution upon the request of the student.

Deadline: June 1, 2020

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must submit the following information in order to be considered eligible for the scholarship:

  • Proof of enrollment in the institution
  • A statement of financial need
  • 1 letter of recommendation from someone familiar with your academic work
  • An essay of no more than 1000 words about why you chose to study History or Law

THE WAGNER & WAGNER ANNUAL CIVIL JUSTICE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD Each year, we will award $2,500 to an eligible law or pre-law student who is enrolled in, or has proof of upcoming enrollment in, an accredited college or university for the Fall semester. We will announce the winners in July 2019.

Deadline: June 1, 2020

Eligibility and requirements:

To be eligible for the award, applicants must submit the following no later than June 1, 2020

  • Proof of enrollment for the upcoming academic year
  • One (1) letter of recommendation from a member of the faculty or staff at the university or school, or from a teacher from the previous year (for incoming students only)
  • One (1) essay up to 1,000 words on “The injured plaintiff’s right to be compensated through litigation or mediation.”
  • Academic Transcripts from the current academic year (2019-2020)

THE ANNUAL HARRIS LOWRY MANTON LLP CIVIL JUSTICE SCHOLARSHIP  This $5,000 award will be given to any incoming or current law student who is either currently enrolled, or who has accepted a place, in an accredited law school for the Fall semester of the upcoming academic year. This annual scholarship will be awarded at the end of July.

Deadline: June 1, 2020

Eligibility and requirements:

To be eligible for the award, applicants must submit the following no later than June 1, 2020.

  • Proof of enrollment for the upcoming academic year
  • One recommendation from a member of the faculty or staff at the university or school (incoming IL students may submit a letter from a teacher from the previous year)
  • An essay of no more than 1,000 words about the importance of the right to a trial by jury

RONALD HEDDING LAW FIRM SCHOLARSHIP Hedding Law Firm, a Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley, CA criminal defense law firm is offering an annual $2,500 scholarship for students who are currently attending or enrolled in college or graduate school.

2020 Francis “Brother” Hare Access to Justice Scholarship The Francis “Brother” Hare Access to Justice Scholarship Fund was established to recognize a law student whose work has been published in a law review. Applicants are invited to submit their papers by May 31, 2020, for the $5,000 scholarship award. The law student scholarship winner will be selected by the AIEG scholarship committee. The winner will be notified by August 30, 2020. Papers should be submitted to Jane Giattina at jane@aieg.com with following subject line: Francis “Brother” Hare Access to Justice Scholarship Application.

Published law review papers will be considered for this award based on articles that argued in favor of one or more of the following:

  • The right of access to the civil courts for all citizens regardless of ability to afford a lawyer (e.g., support of the contingent fee)
  • The right of open courts and public access to evidence that shows public safety hazards (e.g., opposition to sealing orders and protective orders of confidentiality)
  • Ethics violations for attorneys to argue for or participate in protective orders that hide evidence of safety hazards from government agencies or the public, whether discovery or trial
  • Ethics violations for attorneys to argue for or participate in sealing orders that hide evidence from the public as part of settlement agreements
  • Ethics violations for judges to sign protective orders or sealing orders that have the effect of hiding from the public or government agencies safety hazards

Patrick Malone & Associates Offers Scholarship to Law Students for Representing Real People Patrick Malone & Associates is offering two scholarships of $5,000 each to law students committed to a career representing individuals.  We call this our “Representing Real People” scholarship. Our goal is to make a dent in the high cost of law school for students who want to represent individuals, to make it a little easier to choose such a career path.

Instructions:

  1. Interested applicants should download an application form here and fill it out completely.
  2. Submit completed form by July 1 to PM&A at the address shown on the form, along with:
  • Personal essay
  • Proof of acceptance to or current attendance at a U.S. accredited law school.

PHILADELPHIA INJURY LAWYERS P.C. ESSAY COMPETITION $1000 SCHOLARSHIP Philadelphia Injury Lawyers are known for obtaining high judgments in Court for victims of medical malpractice. We want to help the future generation of Philadelphia medical malpractice lawyers with their education expenses by offering an annual $1000 scholarship. The Scholarship will be based on an essay competition with a topic focused on medical malpractice law.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • This Scholarship is open to both graduate/law students and undergraduate students seeking to go to law school in the future. All applicants must be enrolled in a U.S. undergraduate or graduate-level program.

The Impact Zone Annual Scholarship Award We believe that the fitness community deserves our best and our brightest.

Glotzer & Leib’s Scholarship Fund We’re proud to support recipients by helping them cover college-related expenses. The winner(s) will receive a check for $1000. We will be offering this scholarship bi-annually.

This scholarship is open to any student currently enrolled in an accredited college or university in the United States. This includes students that have been accepted and have committed to attend a specific college or university next semester.

2020 Rizio Lipinsky Lawyer Scholarship

 

For the 2020 Rizio Lipinsky $10,000 Law School Scholarship, we want to know why you’re pursuing a career in law. In an essay of 1,000 words or less, please explain why you’re inspired to become an attorney, and how you plan to use your law degree to fight for justice for your fellows. If you have past experience in advocating for yourself or others, we would love to hear how that experience informed your decision to pursue a career in law.

Law Scholarship Entry Deadlines:

Applications for the law school scholarship will be accepted from February 15, 2020, through May 1, 2020. The winner will be notified by June 15, 2020. Submissions received before February 15, 2020, or after May 1, 2020, will not be considered.

Law School Scholarship Application Process:

In an essay of 1,000 words or less, please tell us why you’re pursuing a legal career, why you believe it is important to advocate for others, and how the scholarship will help you to maximize opportunities to develop your skills as a future lawyer. Patrick Henry Maddren Scholarship Overview:

The Patrick Henry Maddren Scholarship has been created to help one student defray the high cost of university tuition. Patrick believes that everyone who seeks higher education should be able to do so. The Patrick Henry Maddren Scholarship is the result of this commitment.

Guidelines:

The following requirements must be met to apply for the Patrick Henry Maddren Scholarship.

  • High school senior currently accepted at an accredited college or university
  • Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior student currently enrolled at an accredited college or university.
  • Submit an essay of 700-800 words answering the following question.
  • What is your best solution for resolution of the student loan debt crisis?\

Team Law Working Moms Scholarship

 

The scholarship will provide students with $1,500 to go toward the costs of tuition or any other related expenses at a college or university of their choice, anywhere in the United States. An additional $1,500 will be donated to the Dress for Success Foundation, “an international not-for-profit organization that empowers women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and the developmental tools to help women thrive in work and in life.”

In order to be awarded this scholarship, you must be a working mother or a mother looking to return to the workforce and be a current undergraduate or graduate student with a 2.0 GPA, or entering a vocational or technical school. To apply, students should fill out the form at the link, and submit a copy of their transcript, a 500 word (or less) essay on why they should be selected, 1 letter of recommendation and proof of enrollment to janie@nextlevel.com.

THE MAY FIRM BI-ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND The May Firm, we understand the importance of an education and just how difficult it can be to finance college these days. Robert May, our founding attorney here at The May Firm, was the first in his family to attend college! He’s incredibly appreciative of the opportunity he had to attend Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for his undergraduate degree, then moving on to law school. Proff Law Juvenile & Restorative Justice Scholarship This scholarship will be awarded to a law student spending their summer working at a non-profit organization, doing juvenile justice or restorative justice work. It is meant to help support students doing unpaid or low-paid, but important juvenile or restorative justice work. Law students from diverse backgrounds and/or have juvenile or criminal records are encouraged to apply.

  • Law School Year: Rising 2L or 3L
  • Employment: Upcoming summer internship at non-profit or government agency
  • Field: Juvenile justice or restorative justice
  • Aid: < $5,000 in expected summer funding

Law Student Scholarship GJELL Accident Attorneys is proud to announce the first semi-annual GJELL Law Student Scholarship. This scholarship is graciously being provided by the staff at GJELLAccident Attorneys for the 2019 school year. The attorneys at GJELL understand the financial burdens law students go through when working towards their degrees and are providing this essay contest for eligible students.

There will be two $2,000 awards annually for this scholarship program. There will be one winner per scholarship period.

This is an essay contest on the topic “Reasons I wanted to go to law school”. Submissions will be posted exclusively on GJEL.com website to be publicly viewed.

Scholarship Eligibility

In order to be eligible for this award, the student must be enrolled in an accredited United States Law School by Spring 2020. Students must provide a copy of a valid school-issued ID at the time of their submission to prove enrollment.

Smith & Eulo Legal Scholarship We are happy to announce the first annual Smith & Eulo legal scholarship! We’re offering a $2,500 scholarship to one current or prospective law student. This scholarship will be for the fall 2020 academic semester.

ELIGIBILITY

You must be a legal US resident, and either a current (1) law student at an accredited U.S. law school, or (2) undergraduate student at an accredited U.S. college or university who has applied to or will apply to law school. If you already have a full academic scholarship, you are not eligible.You must provide proof of enrollment. Please attach a digital copy of any official correspondence with your school. That is why the Yeboah Law Group is proud to offer the first Make a Difference Scholarship to students throughout the country who truly want to be the change they wish to see. This annual scholarship will be awarded in to a student who is currently enrolled in, or who will officially be enrolled in, any accredited university or college in the U.S. for the Fall semester of the upcoming academic year. DUI Awareness Scholarship McKenzie Law Firm, P.C. is awarding a $2,500 DUI Awareness Scholarship to a deserving college or high school student who is pursuing their post-secondary education at an accredited college or university.

To qualify, students must fill out the application on this page and submit a 1,000-word essay discussing why people still engage in drunk driving, despite the risks.

Applications for the McKenzie Law Firm, P.C. DUI Awareness Scholarship must be completed on or before the June 15, 2020 deadline.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to qualify for the $2,500 scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

 ADAM Z. RICE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

 

The California Judges Foundation (CJF) was founded in 1966 as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, tax-exempt corporation. CJF is administered by the California Judge’s Association staff and supervised by a nine-person Board of Directors.

CJF is dedicated to educating the public about the importance of an impartial judiciary for the administration of Justice in California.

CJF offers a need-based scholarship to aspiring law students in California through the Adam Z. Rice Memorial Scholarship. The Adam Z. Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund celebrates the life of a young man who died at age 21. Adam was always trying to help others in need, whether it was the homeless or his classmates. The CJF now has an incredible opportunity to continue Adam’s legacy and fulfill its mission, promote education, and make a lasting impact on future generations devoted to the rule of law and equal access to justice.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to participate in the scholarship program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a United States citizen or permanent resident
  • Must be currently attending or planning to attend a college, university, or law school during the Fall 2020 academic semester
  • Must be in good academic standing with your current educational institution
  • If an applicant is under the age of 18, written permission from a parent or legal guardian must be provided
  • All applicants must include submission in an email along with his/her full name, email address, and the name of the institution he/she is enrolled in.

I’m so happy to tell you that we’ve raised our scholarship amount to $250,000. We awarded $25,000 in scholarships in December and the amount has been refreshed to $250,000 since then. We have 50 awards up for grabs and would love for your amazing students to be involved. We offer these scholarships throughout the year as an ongoing charitable opportunity; our next submission deadline is in May, but applying at any time will allow your students to be considered.

We have a team that check the inbox at least every 12 hours to make sure any questions from you or your students are answered promptly.

Due to our commitment to wanting to make financial situations easier for students, we will only be paying the award directly to the financial aid offices of the winners, we do not pay students directly— Our mission is to help them pay for school fees and this is the best way to ensure that that happens.
