Scholarships listed in this section are given through the University of La Verne.  For non-university scholarships, go to the “External Scholarships” section of this page.

La Verne Law has many scholarships—made possible by our generous alumni and friends that are available to 2L, 3L, and 4L students. Some require an application, which can be accessed here. The deadline to submit an application for the 2018-19 academic year is Friday, January 11, 2019. If you have any questions, please direct them to lawscholarships@laverne.edu.

If you are interested in being considered for one or more scholarships, we encourage you to apply. Only one application form is necessary; to the extent, you wish to be considered for multiple scholarships, be sure to include information that addresses specific requirements of individual scholarships.

Michael and Jeanette Bidart Endowed Scholarship Student must have an interest in insurance law.
Joseph and Doleen Borba Endowed Scholarship Student must be a female in good academic standing with financial need.
The Dean’s Award of Excellence A rising 3L student who is in the top 15% of his or her class whose academic performance, leadership and service demonstrate professional promise.
Sean McDonald Endowed Scholarship Student must be in good academic standing with an interest in tort plaintiff representation, and must show financial need.
Paul T. O’Brien Endowed Scholarship Student who has demonstrated outstanding potential as a litigator.
Ann Rahm Endowed Scholarship Student who has demonstrated outstanding potential as a litigator.
Society for Justice Scholarship Student(s) must be in good academic standing with an interest in tort plaintiff representation, and must show financial need.
Taylor Warner and Crista Haynes Leadership Scholarship Student must be in the top 25% of the class, hold a leadership position in a student organization or clinic, and show financial need.
The Paul Egly Scholarship Fund The Paul Egly Scholarship Fund is an endowed fund honoring the founding dean of the College of Law, Judge Paul Egly. The Fund originally awarded scholarships based on financial need to law students in good standing who were single parents with minor children. The Fund is now available to all law students in good standing who are demonstrably engaged in their legal studies and passionate about serving their communities and promoting access and justice.

2019 Nadrich & Cohen, LLP Scholarship As part of its goal to make education accessible to everyone, the Normandie Law Firm has established the Normandie Law Firm Diversity Scholarship. Each year, the firm will award two scholarships, each in the amount of $1000. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage and assist a needy student, who has demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to the promotion of diversity, to pursue an education in their field of choice.

Bey & Associates Bey & Associates, LLC, a personal injury law firm based in Atlanta, Georgia, is offering a once-yearly $1,000 scholarship to students who are currently attending or plan to attend their first year of college or graduate school in the upcoming semester. The rising costs of education are continuing to be a struggle for many students who aim to obtain a higher education. All of the attorneys and staff members at Bey & Associates believe that by helping students overcome those struggles, our world can become a brighter place for future generations. Duffy Law Scholarship At Duffy Law, LLC, our Connecticut criminal defense attorneys value education and helping those in need. Environmental Law Institute Research Internship The Environmental Law Institute (ELI), a non-profit research and education center in Washington, DC, seeks individuals to conduct research on natural resource protection and pollution prevention. Interns work directly with staff attorneys, scientists and economists on a variety of projects. Substantive areas of focus include: land use policy, public participation in environmental regulation, biodiversity, air quality, public health, hazardous waste and brownfields, wetlands and watershed policy, international environmental policy, environmental management systems, and environmental enforcement. Interns conduct library and internet research, attend and report on outside events, review and summarize scholarly material, assist with preparation for environmental training courses, conduct telephone interviews, and perform various administrative tasks. Banafshe Scholarship 2019
Banafshe Law Firm, PLC, a California Personal Injury Law Firm, is pleased to offer an annual $1,000 scholarship to a student who is currently attending or planning on attending their first year of college or graduate school.  The annual scholarship program is aimed at students who have overcome a challenge in life, performed community service, and demonstrates financial need. Application and supporting material must be submitted by July 31, 2019. The scholarship winner will be notified prior to August 31st annually. Students must submit a brief essay between 350 to 700 words detailing a single challenge in life they have had to overcome, community services they have been involved in and how they intend to finance your education.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • S. Citizen (or permanent resident).
  • Enrolled (or enrolling) as full-time student of accredited college/university within the United States for completion of an undergraduate or graduate degree.

Sutliff & Stout’s Annual Law School Scholarship In an effort to enable more students who have a passion for law, we are offering an annual scholarship contest which will award a law student with $2,000 to be put towards his or her law school costs.  I have provided the details below.  Please let me know if you are able to share this information on the website.

Baumgartner Law Firm Law Student Scholarship The Baumgartner Law Firm is pleased to offer an annual law student scholarship to needy individuals who are enrolled at an accredited Law School in the US. In order to apply, the applicant must be enrolled at an accredited law school in (If you have applied to law school and have not yet been accepted, you may apply but the scholarship will only be awarded to someone accepted and enrolled at an accredited Law School at the time of scholarship selection.) This scholarship will be awarded based on need and commitment to helping others. A one time award of $3,000.00 will be awarded to one winner to be used for tuition, books and law school expenses. Heshmat Mirsepassi Endowed Scholarship for Muslim Students The faces of elementary school children Heshmat Mirsepassi taught in her native Iran lingered in her mind for decades. Many of those children came to school with just a crust of bread to eat for an entire day. One day, she vowed, she would have enough money to help them.

  • Be a current or incoming student at the University of La Verne
  • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA

Maxim Law Social Justice Scholarship Allison Maxim, founder and managing partner of Maxim Law, wants to empower future generations by offering two scholarships to motivated and committed students interested in pursuing advanced education in social justice, immigration rights, civil rights, anti-harassment, and gender and women’s studies. One scholarship will be awarded prior to fall and spring semesters.

Who: The award is granted two times per year and is not needs-based. Applicants must:

  • Be accepted into an accredited college in the United States
  • Be interested in pursuing a college degree in social justice, immigration rights, civil rights, anti-harassment, gender, and women’s studies, or other programs that advance justice for all people

What:  The scholarship provides two $500 awards; one per semester to different students. The award recipient will be notified of their selection by August 31, 2019 for Spring Semester.

Annual Break The Habit Distracted Driving Scholarship The Break The Habit Distracted Driving Scholarship is a $1,000 annual scholarship meant to promote discussion and reflection on the dangers surrounding distracted driving and driving habits. Students are encouraged to reflect on their driving behavior and write a 1-3 page essay outlining a time they gave in to distracted driving and what drove them to give in to distraction. Students should also incorporate a personal plan for how they intend to stop driving with distraction for good.

 Scholarship – The Exoneration Education Initiative

 

In an effort to encourage law students to pursue a career in defense law and reclaim the rights of wrongfully convicted individuals, Tidwell Law Firm PLLC is offering a $2,500 scholarship to students.

We are asking students to write an essay of at least 500 words detailing the case of a wrongfully accused individual who was released or is still imprisoned that inspired them to pursue a career in defense law. Students are encouraged to outline the case in a detailed way and artfully describe how it led them to choose a career in law.

Eligibility Rules

  • Applicants must be EITHER out-going high school seniors (graduating summer 2019) OR students currently enrolled in a college, trade school, university, or law school as of the start of the fall 2019 semester.

The MLG Scholarship For Future Litigation Lawyers Mesriani Law Group understands the rigorous process that young law students go through to achieve their dreams of becoming practicing attorneys, along with the financial burdens that come with it. Many students often have to apply for financial aid and take out astronomical student loans, which is why grant programs are a great way to ease some of the difficulties associated with pursuing higher education.

Annual Reiff Law Firm Legal Scholarship  Submissions for the 2019 award are now open. We will announce the winner in August, 2019.The Philadelphia law firm of The Reiff Law Firm, personal injury and car accident lawyers since 1979, is pleased to announce that we are currently offering young law students the 2019 The Reiff Law Firm Legal Scholarship. This $1,000 scholarship is open to any student studying for a career in the legal field. All applicants must be:

  1. Pursuing an undergrad degree in pre-law, political science, or paralegal studies, or;
  2. Working towards their J.D. in any concentration related to the law.

Scholarship Eligibility

All applicants for the Scholarship must meet the following criteria:

  1. You must be a citizen of the United States.
  2. You must demonstrate plans to enroll for admission‚ or have proof of current full-time enrollment at an accredited institution in pursuit of a J.D. If you have not yet received your acceptance into law school‚ you may still apply‚ but the scholarship will not be released without proof of acceptance and enrollment.
  3. Undergraduate students may apply; however, they should be able to meet scholarship eligibility criteria outlined in bullet item two.
  4. Your GPA must meet a minimum score of 3.0.

The O’Connor, Runckel & O’Malley Law Scholarship The law firm of O’Connor, Runckel & O’Malley, personal injury lawyers, is pleased to announce that we are currently offering law students the 2019 O’Connor Runckel & O’Malley Legal Scholarship. A good education cost tens of thousands of dollars, which often places substantial financial burdens on a student and their family members.

The attorneys of Mushkatel, Robbins & Becker, PLLC, invite you to share your thoughts and compete for one of our two scholarship awards:

  • First place – $2,000 Scholarship
  • Second place – $500 Scholarship

Our goal is to foster discussion about the relationship between police agencies and communities while, at the same time, helping young people to pursue a higher education. Please read our rules, learn more about this exciting scholarship opportunity and make sure to submit your essay or video by our December 6th, 2019 deadline. Please look at the dates carefully as the scholarship deadline has been extended.

Eligibility:

Our 2019 annual scholarship competition is open to students who are U.S. residents or students at U.S. schools who fall within these three categories:

  • High school juniors and seniors
  • Students currently enrolled in two-year or four-year colleges or universities
