The University of La\u00a0Verne College of Law and Public Service has long been a pioneer in providing practical skills training to our law students, giving them the tools they need to be practice-ready. These programs provide service to the local community and give students the opportunity to conduct research, write legal documents, and practice oral advocacy skills while working on actual cases under the supervision of knowledgeable faculty and practicing lawyers.<\/p>\n
La Verne Law\u2019s robust externship program places upper division\u00a0students with government agencies, public\u00a0interest organizations, non-profit agencies, and judges.\u00a0Our program fosters law student engagement with the\u00a0legal community, while helping students reflect on the\u00a0work they will do as lawyers and the role they will embody\u00a0when they take their place among their legal peers.<\/p>\n
Our Justice & Immigration Clinic provides pro bono<\/em>\u00a0assistance to immigrants seeking asylum in the United\u00a0States. Students participating in the clinic interview\u00a0clients, find and retain experts, draft and file briefs,\u00a0draft direct examinations, prepare witnesses and have\u00a0a valuable opportunity to represent their client before\u00a0the Immigration Court in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n The Misdemeanor Appellate Advocacy Clinic represents clients who wish to appeal their cases in the San Bernardino Superior Courts. The clinic works in coordination and collaboration with the San Bernardino Judicial System in providing live-client clinical experiences in misdemeanor criminal cases.<\/p>\n The Disability Rights Legal Center Clinic focuses on\u00a0disability civil rights litigation and special education\u00a0issues for low-income and minority families. The clinic\u00a0addresses some of the most extreme problems for\u00a0people with disabilities in Inland Southern California,\u00a0including the failure to provide free and appropriate\u00a0education for students with disabilities, the treatment\u00a0of youth with disabilities in the juvenile justice and\u00a0foster care systems, lack of access to the justice system,\u00a0and lack of access to healthcare.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The University of La\u00a0Verne College of Law and Public Service has long been a pioneer in providing practical skills training to our law students, giving them the tools they need to be practice-ready.
