The University of La Verne\u2019s College of Law and Public Service students have the invaluable opportunity to participate in co-curricular activities in order to expand their understanding of legal proceedings, build confidence, and establish a professional network, benefiting them for years to come.<\/p>\n

Available Co-Curricular Programs<\/h2>\n

The Law Review<\/h3>\n

The University of La Verne Law Review<\/i> is the student-run and student-edited scholarly publication for the College of Law and Public Service. Membership on the Law Review<\/i> is the result of a selective process, based on both the prospective member\u2019s academic performance and successful completion of a writing competition. Each year, Law Review<\/i> members host a major symposium in addition to publishing the annual legal journal. <\/i>Read more about the Law Review<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Study Abroad Program<\/h3>\n

The College of Law and Public Service study abroad program allows students to immerse themselves in their legal studies and <\/i>a new culture by attending classes in another country for a summer semester. Students can study at ABA-accredited law school programs in countries such as Spain, England, Italy, China, Russia, and more, fostering a global network and returning with a broadened worldview. Credits earned over the summer abroad count toward the J.D. degree requirements.<\/p>\n

Moot Court Team<\/h3>\n

Law students participate in several national moot court competitions each year. Competitors conduct legal research, draft briefs, and present their positions before a panel of experts. Moot Court participants are selected by a faculty panel from applicants who have successfully completed an intensive course of study in advanced Appellate Advocacy. Mock Trial Team<\/h3>\n

The College of Law and Public Service selects students to compete in trial team competitions such as the National Trial Team Competition, the San Diego Defense Lawyers Mock Trial Competition, and the American Bar Association\u2019s Section of Labor & Employment Law\u2019s annual Law Student Trial Advocacy Competition<\/a>. Participants of the competition develop their trial advocacy technique in a mock courtroom experience, meet fellow law students, and network with labor and employment law professionals.<\/p>\n

Alternative Dispute Resolution Team<\/h3>\n

The College of Law and Public Service\u2019s Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Competition Team provides students an opportunity to practice their mediation and arbitration skills to resolve disputes. Students who take part in the ADR Competition Team participate several times each year in events sponsored by the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution.<\/p>\n

Journal of Law Business and Ethics<\/h3>\n

The Journal of Law Business and Ethics (JLBE) is an official publication of the Pacific Southwest Academy of Legal Studies in Business. It is a double-blind, peer-reviewed interdisciplinary publication issued and distributed in February each year. The JLBE is administered by both a student editorial board and faculty editorial board.<\/p>\n

The Board of Advocates<\/h3>\n

The Board of Advocates consists of the Moot Court, Mock Trial, and ADR competition teams. Students who are placed on these teams become members of the Board of Advocates. The Board of Advocates is led by the Faculty Board\u2014which consists of the faculty coaches and administrators\u2014and the Student Executive Board, an elected panel of student competitors.<\/p>\n
