{"id":316,"date":"2019-05-10T14:28:35","date_gmt":"2019-05-10T21:28:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/law.laverne.edu\/academics\/?page_id=316"},"modified":"2024-07-11T08:58:29","modified_gmt":"2024-07-11T15:58:29","slug":"jd-mpa","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/law.laverne.edu\/academics\/dual-degree\/jd-mpa\/","title":{"rendered":"JD\/MPA Dual Degree Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Juris Doctor\/Master of Public Administration (JD\/MPA) dual degree program prepares students to work at the junction of these two complementary fields.<\/p>\n<p>The JD\/MPA program is intended for legal professionals who are drawn to matters of public governance or nonprofit administration. Graduates will give voice to their constituents and have the capacity to assess the legal issues affecting their communities.<\/p>\n<h2>JD\/MPA Admissions<\/h2>\n<p>Interested applicants must first be accepted into the College of Law and Public Service. Once accepted, JD students can express their intent to pursue a dual degree. Applicants must meet the admission standards of each degree program and should check with each College for specific entrance requirements. Visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/law.laverne.edu\/admission\/\">College of Law and Public Service Admissions page<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<h2>JD\/MPA Curriculum<\/h2>\n<p>Nine units of elective coursework in the master\u2019s program counts towards JD elective requirements, and twelve units of the JD elective coursework counts towards the master\u2019s degree elective requirements.<\/p>\n<h3>JD Curriculum<\/h3>\n<p>The JD curriculum consists of 88 total semester units. The first year places emphasis on the values and skills necessary for success in law school and in the legal profession;. The foundational doctrinal courses include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contract Law;<\/li>\n<li>Civil Procedure;<\/li>\n<li>Real Property; and<\/li>\n<li>Constitutional Law.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Torts and Criminal Law are also explored in the first year. In the second year, law students develop practical skills through the Litigation Track and the Transactional Law Track in addition to up to 14 units of electives.
