Eighteen of La Verne Law’s brightest students were honored at the annual Scholarship Night awards celebration Nov. 1. The students were chosen from among more than 400 of their peers to receive named or endowed scholarships from various generous donors or foundations. Scholarship Night is an opportunity for La Verne Law to highlight the accomplishments of its talented student body, and to thank the donors who made the scholarships possible. Dean Easley announced the scholarship recipients, who had an opportunity to network with donors and faculty. The scholarship recipients were: Andres Alatorre, Danny Benavides, Taylor Bristol, Ernest Cardenas, David Collins, Briana Fehringer, Crista Haynes, Arman Khoshnood, Kristin Libby, Iliana Madrigal, Armen Mansourian, Tobias Nicholson, Melissa Pratt, Jonathan Tigeri, Julianne Vandergrift, Ana Luz Vazquez, Fredrik Whitley and Zareh Zatikyan.
La Verne Law held its Fall 2010 Awards Ceremony on Oct. 22, honoring 123 students for their Spring and Summer 2010 accomplishments in the following categories: Dean’s List, CALI Awards, Moot Court, Mock Trial, Negotiation Competition Team, PASS Scholars, University of La Verne Law Review and publications. Students shared this special moment with family and friends, who attended the ceremony and a reception immediately after.
The Alumni Association hosted a wine-tasting event as part of La Verne Law’s ongoing 40th Year Anniversary Celebration. Alumni, faculty and staff gathered at the Joseph Filippi Winery in Rancho Cucamonga on Oct. 16 for an afternoon of wine, appetizers and dessert. Attendees were treated to a tour of the vineyard, followed by a tasting and reception.
Forty-four La Verne Law graduates passed the July 2010 California Bar Examination and were sworn-in as attorneys on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at the University of La Verne main campus. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Robert Dukes administered the oath for the State Bar of California and U.S. Magistrate Judge David Bristow administered the federal oath, admitting the recent bar passers to practice before federal courts. Several La Verne Law students and faculty took part in the Third-Annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 25 in Claremont. The purpose was to raise funds for charities through the Claremont Sunrise Rotary Club, which supports many charities in Claremont, including youth sports, as well as other charities in the U.S. and abroad.
