Action: A main focus for the College of Law this year is enrollment. To that end, the COL has developed a Marketing & Recruitment Plan that has four main initiatives and more than ten marketing projects. I want to highlight the main marketing initiatives. They are La Verne Law in Numbers, the La Verne First Initiative and the Personal Touch Outreach (PTO). The La Verne in Numbers initiative is the use of Internet, print and electronic media to highlight the great things about and that distinguish Law Verne Law. Under this initiative, we are directing people who wish to learn about La Verne Law on the Internet to a “Splash” page instead of our website home page. If you wish to see what the Splash Page looks like and what the Numbers are click here: Learn More About La Verne Law. The La Verne First Initiative is a direct outreach to students at the University of La Verne through the faculty who teach students in law related courses, the student organizations, and other environs where students who might be interested in a legal education congregate. Once those students are identified, we will engage the PTO, by which the Admissions Office will connect those students with faculty, administrators and law students to inform them of the program at the COL that is a transformative learning experience and a path to career success and satisfaction. The PTO is also the vehicle for connecting interested students and applicants with the COL and increasing our yield of applicants and enrolled students.
Accomplishments: The final area I wish to discuss is the great accomplishments of our students on the bar exam. The February 2014 first-time bar takers had an 87.5% pass rate. The most recent bar takers – July 2014 – had a 66% first-time pass rate, and that rate was 3 points under the state average for first-time takers. The combination of these bar takers gives La Verne Law a 73% pass rate for first-time takers in 2014. While the state has not released the first-time bar pass rate for the year, I am confident the College of Law state average for the year will be above the 2014 state average for graduates of ABA approves law schools. These are fabulous numbers and a testament to the strength and quality of the program of legal education at the College of Law, the hard work and sacrifice of the students who took the bar exam, the program, faculty and support of the Center for Academic & Bar Readiness, and the commitment of the faculty, administrators and staff of the College of Law and the University of La Verne. Congratulations to all.
